Permabond TA4208 Black: Our Reliably Strong, Versatile Adhesive

Permabond TA4208 Black is still a breakthrough product, more than a year after its launch. It offers unique features that make it not only a highly versatile adhesive, but also incredibly practical in terms of everyday use.

TA4208 Black is a two-part, 1:1 structural acrylic that bonds well to most industrial substrates, including metals, plastics, composite materials, ceramics and woods. Its jet-black colour makes it particularly well suited to colour matching when bonding carbon fibre, with TA4208 achieving a very strong bond on this substrate. It bonds dissimilar substrates well, with high shear and peel strengths achieved on most substrates.

Being able to colour match with carbon fibre as it does makes TA4208 Black a popular choice in industries such as automotive, aerospace, sporting goods and prosthetics, where carbon fibre is a very commonly used material. Because this substrate is so lightweight, while at the same time offering unbelievable strength, demand for carbon fibre is very likely to keep growing as time goes on.

Key Features of Permabond TA4208 Black

Earlier, we mentioned some standout features of TA4208 Black that make it a highly versatile, worthwhile adhesive to have in your toolbox. The first of these is its state-of-the-art, in-built surface activation technology. This enables the adhesive to bond through oxide layers and contamination, without the need for surface preparation such as abrasion or use of hazardous etchants. With this technology, the bonding of certain metals, such as aluminium, thus becomes much safer and more straightforward. TA4208’s surface activation technology also lets it bond through oily metal surfaces, again saving both time and money on surface preparation.

Its second key feature is that it is non-slumping or sagging. This means that, once applied, the adhesive will stay firmly in place without dripping down. Therefore, TA4208 Black can be applied directly to a vertical surface and will keep its shape immediately. This can be helpful for bonding ‘in situ,’ where bonded parts are not lying flat or if there is a gap to fill.

Other key features are its great weather and chemical resistance, which make it ideally suited to outdoor applications, as well as its quick strength development. TA4208 achieves handling strength in 10-15 minutes, and a working strength in between 20 and 30 minutes.
