Permabond UV6357 is a UV-light curing adhesive that offers outstanding cold resistance. Originally developed for a manufacturer of freezer and refrigerator components, UV6357 provides excellent adhesion on glass and metals, as well as on rigid thermoplastics such as ABS, PVC and Nylon.
The adhesive is highly reactive, curing even when the substrate is tinted or filtered, such as with fritted glass. When exposed to UV light, it achieves a full cure in seconds and cures to a fully transparent and tack-free finish. This makes it an ideal replacement for mechanical fastenings or joining processes which can make items more bulky, less aesthetically pleasing and hard to clean. With Permabond UV6357, you get a strong, discreet bond that lasts.
Outstanding cold resistance
The key feature of this product is its exceptional resistance to, and performance at low temperatures. Our customer needed a product that was not only able to continuously withstand temperatures below freezing, but also successfully handle temperature cycling and thermal shock. Always keen on a challenge, we undertook to make a product that could provide exceptional performance to satisfy all our customer’s criteria – and the results are impressive.
When tested directly against the leading competitor product in the market, Permabond UV6357 outshone in all key areas. Block shear strength, peel strength and tensile strength are all superior, and when tested at -23°C (-10°F), it successfully passed drop-peel and impact tests. It did the same when exposed to temperatures greater than 70°C (158°F) as well as at 100% relative humidity. This showcases UV6357’s resistance to heat and moisture, as well as its cold resistance.
When bonding glass to metals or other materials, it is important to bond with an adhesive with a high level of elongation, as this allows substrate materials to expand and contract at different rates without causing the glass to crack – this is often witnessed when there is a sudden change in temperature. UV6357 elongates to an astonishing 440% to cope with expansion and contraction between substrates and does not become embrittled at temperatures below zero, helping ensure that freezer shelves or sliding doors do not crack due to thermal shock.
Other key features of Permabond UV6357 are its flexibility and toughness, resistance to yellowing, and chemical resistance. The latter means that it can safely be exposed to cleaning chemicals without any weakening of the adhesive joint – a useful feature for appliances like fridges and freezers.
