What do the threadlocker colors usually mean?<\/strong><\/h2>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Years ago, USA military specifications dictated the color of the liquid threadlocker inside the bottle.\u00a0 The bottles are generally the same color.\u00a0 Note: not all threadlockers are color-coded according to this scheme.\u00a0 The color scheme applies to the Mil-Spec products (used in existing designs) and the new ASTM standards (for NEW designs).\u00a0 So when in doubt, check the product number and technical data sheet for full information.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Here is what the threadlocker colors can indicate:<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

PURPLE THREADLOCKER \u2013 Low Strength<\/h4>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Permabond Purple Threadlocker LM<\/strong>113 is a L<\/strong>ow strength M<\/strong>edium viscosity threadlocker that is ideal for small screws used in computers, eyeglasses, carburetors, and small electronic devices.\u00a0 The low strength is ideal as it allows removal.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

GREEN THREADLOCKER \u2013 Wicking Grade for Post Assembly<\/h4>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Permabond Green Threadlocker HL<\/strong>126 is a H<\/strong>igh strength L<\/strong>ow viscosity threadlocker.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

BLUE THREADLOCKER \u2013 Medium Strength<\/h4>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Permabond Blue Threadlocker MM<\/strong>115 is a M<\/strong>edium strength M<\/strong>edium viscosity threadlocker.\u00a0 Blue threadlockers are often called removable threadlockers as they can be disassembled with hand tools.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

RED THREADLOCKER \u2013 High Strength<\/h4>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Permabond Red Threadlockers HM118, HH120, HM128, HM129 and HH131 are all high strength threadlockers.\u00a0 We call these permanent \u2013 but that really isn\u2019t accurate.\u00a0 You can disassemble fastener locked with red threadlocking adhesive \u2013 it just isn\u2019t quite so easy to do.\u00a0 To disassemble, apply localized heat greater than 550\u00b0F.\u00a0 The adhesive\/sealant will soften enough to remove it.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Does this color coding apply to all threadlockers?<\/strong><\/h2>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

No, Permabond A011 is a low strength threadlocker that is red.\u00a0 This product is sold in Europe and wasn\u2019t made to meet the USA Mil Spec.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Do the anaerobic threadlocker color categories apply to other anaerobic adhesives and sealants \u2013 like retaining compounds?<\/strong><\/h2>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

No, the wicking grade threadlocker<\/em> HL126 is green to indicate wicking grade, but the high viscosity retaining compound<\/em>, Permabond HH040 is also green.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

So are all removable threadlockers blue?<\/strong><\/h2>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

No, Permabond MM115 PURE is colorless.\u00a0 It is a medium strength medium viscosity threadlocking adhesive that is NSF ANSI 61 certified for potable water.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n
