We recommend testing, particularly if nuts and bolts appear heavily contaminated.<\/p>\n<p>A couple of points to consider:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/permabond.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/MM115.jpg\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-372 alignleft\" style=\"width: 314px; height: 223px; padding-right: 15px;\" src=\"https:\/\/permabond.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/MM115.jpg\" alt=\"MM115\" width=\"345\" height=\"251\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Metal ions are needed for the <a href=\"https:\/\/permabond.com\/tds\/mm115_tds-en\/?pdf=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">MM115<\/a> threadlocker to cure. Too much contamination on the components can reduce the amount of metal ions in contact with the threadlocker. Thus causing the adhesive to cure more slowly and hindering the strength development.<\/li>\n<li>Threadlockers work by filling the microscopic voids in the metal surface, providing better surface to surface contact, stress distribution, and protection against moisture ingress. If these gaps are filled with oil and grease, then the adhesive can\u2019t get in. This affects final performance.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>If you always clean and degrease nuts and bolts before using Permabond MM115, you can be confident in achieving consistent bonding and sealing performance every time. If you don&#8217;t want to do surface preparation, consider a more oil&#8211;tolerant threadlocker. Permabond <a href=\"https:\/\/permabond.com\/tds\/hm129_tds-en\/?pdf=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">HM129<\/a> may be suitable but it depends on your requirements.<\/p>\n<p>If you decide to clean components before bonding, a suitable degreaser would be acetone or isopropanol.
