However, modified epoxy adhesives are soft and flexible.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4><a href=\"https:\/\/permabond.com\/products\/structural-acrylic\/\">Acrylic Adhesive Characteristics<\/a><\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>Many formulations are low odor. However, MMAs have a distinct strong odor<\/li>\n<li>High-temperature resistance<\/li>\n<li>High strength on metal, MMAs have very high strength on plastics, Specialty grades such as <a href=\"https:\/\/permabond.com\/tds\/ta4610_tds-en\/?pdf=1\">Permabond TA4610<\/a> has excellent strength on difficult to bond plastics such as polyethylene and polypropylene.<\/li>\n<li>Excellent chemical and environmental resistance<\/li>\n<li>Cure mechanisms include &#8211; Surface activated, Two-component static mix, Two-component bead on bead, External mix, Single component (with active metal)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>If bonding metal only, either are high strength structural adhesives.\u00a0 Special grades are available with low read through for thin panel bonding.<\/p>\n<p>When bonding metal to plastic or other materials, acrylic adhesives may be the better choice.<\/p>\n<p>Similarly, for high-speed automation, some acrylics offer fast strength development.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to carrying a structural load, there are a variety of reasons to choose a high strength structural adhesive over a mechanical joint or weld &#8211; some of these reasons play into whether an epoxy adhesive or an acrylic adhesive is the best fit.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Maintain the integrity of the components.\u00a0 Eliminate drilling holes for fasteners.\u00a0 Eliminate post welding polishing and painting.<\/li>\n<li>Distribute stress to reduce component fatigue.\u00a0 Choose a cure mechanism that allows covering the desired bond area to eliminate any focused stress points.<\/li>\n<li>Seal the joint.
