{"id":2165,"date":"2016-03-11T04:10:35","date_gmt":"2016-03-11T04:10:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/permabond.com\/anaerobic-adhesive-threadlocker-application-tips\/"},"modified":"2025-02-25T12:49:08","modified_gmt":"2025-02-25T12:49:08","slug":"anaerobic-adhesive-threadlocker-application-tips","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/permabond.com\/de\/anaerobic-adhesive-threadlocker-application-tips\/","title":{"rendered":"Anaerobic Adhesive Threadlocker Application Tips"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>How do Anaerobic Adhesive Threadlockers Work?<\/h2>\n<p>Anaerobic adhesives and sealants remain liquid until oxygen is excluded and metal is present.\u00a0 When a threaded metal fastener is assembled with good coverage of anaerobic adhesive <a href=\"https:\/\/permabond.com\/products\/anaerobic-adhesives-and-sealants\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">threadlocker<\/a> on the threads, all of the air is excluded and metal is of course present.<\/p>\n<h2>Application Methods for Anaerobic Adhesive Threadlockers in Blind Holes and Through Holes<\/h2>\n<p>A through hole goes completely through the other side \u2013 so you can see through it.\u00a0 A blind hole does not break through the other side \u2013 in other words, you can\u2019t see through it.<\/p>\n<p>When working with a fastener in a through hole, dispense a bead of the <a href=\"https:\/\/permabond.com\/products\/anaerobic-adhesives-and-sealants\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">anaerobic threadlocker<\/a> across the contact length of the threads.<\/p>\n<p>When working with blind holes, dispense the threadlocker down the threads to the bottom of the hole.<\/p>\n<h2>Why does it matter?<\/h2>\n<p>If one applies the threadlocker to the fastener and then places it into a blind hole, the air within the hole has no escape route. So it pushes the liquid anaerobic adhesive threadlocker off the threads creating poor coverage and air in the threads.\u00a0 The lack of coverage can reduce strength significantly, but the trapped air can prevent curing, reducing the effectiveness completely.<\/p>\n<h2>Post Assembly Application Methods<\/h2>\n<p>When using a wicking grade anaerobic threadlocker on nuts and bolts, apply the adhesive at the juncture of the assembled nut and bolt.\u00a0 For blind holes, apply the threadlocker down the internal threads to the bottom of the hole.<\/p>\n<p>Find more information on <a href=\"https:\/\/permabond.com\/products\/anaerobic-adhesives-and-sealants\/\">Permabond Anaerobic Adhesive Threadlockers<\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/permabond.com\/contact-us\">contact us<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>How do Anaerobic Adhesive Threadlockers Work?
